Review of Ayr Game

Lets go Fly a Kite
Having come unstuck over the previous two games it was crucial to get a victory to have a hope of extending the season beyond the regular league campaign and it was great to see the battling qualities of the boys as they had to dig deep to get the win against Ayr on Saturday.

With the wind swirling all round Goldenacre, conditions were not conducive to handling rugby and a great deal of time was spent in the scrummage department with neither team able to gain the upper hand. Having said that with the score so tight and never more than 3 points in it, it was a compelling game with no quarter given and the game only being decided with Ayr declining a kickable penalty for the draw and subsequently failing to score the winning try.

The win and the other results in the league means that a top 4 finish is now within our own hands with three games of the campaign to go – away to Melrose and Boroughmuir and home to Currie.

The 2s go marching on and saw off Ayr 2nd XV 29 v 5 with a devastating burst in the second half that takes us up to 3rd in National Reserve 1 and the 3s also came away with a crucial 5-point win against Edinburgh Accies, which takes us out of the relegation zone. All to play for in all 3 leagues so keep supporting the troops.

The next game for 1st XV is Melrose away on Saturday 17 February, Accies away on 10 Feb for 2nd XV and Preston Lodge on 10 Feb at Goldenacre for 3rd XV.

We have a members meeting to discuss all things Super 6 and Agenda 3 on Tuesday 6 February and we would encourage all members to come along to hear what your board has been doing over the last few months and ask any questions you may have in order that we make an informed decision on the best way forward for Heriot’s Rugby.

All eyes turn to the start of the 2018 6 Nations this weekend and we wish Gregor and the boys all the best in Cardiff on Saturday.
