We’re excited to hear what coach Jamie Parker has to say about the newly formed team and their performance so far in the season.
Heriot’s Blues Men have got off to a promising start winning four out of five of their games so far. Jamie hopes to see more of this strong performance by the Heriot’s Blues throughout the rest of the season, although he is disappointed with the match against Melrose.
“We are performing well, however we were disappointed to lose the Melrose game as I felt we really didn’t show what we were capable of, but the boys picked themselves up the last couple of weeks and put in good performances against Stirling and Cartha”.
With the new league structure this season, there has been uncertainty on the outcome of this year’s matches compared to previous years. Jamie mentions that playing in National 1 is a little bit unknown which has been demonstrated over the last couple of weeks with some unexpected results. “We have to treat every game as a tough one as we’ve seen so far any team can compete with each other if you are not on it each game.” However he adds that “this keeps us on our toes” and that “each week is a new challenge.”
One of the biggest challenges Jamie argues is selecting the teams for each week as “we have two very strong squads for the blues”. The club has been fortunate enough to see lots of talented new players join this year and Jamie states that there is a good mixture of both youth and experience in the squad. This has enabled the coaches to continue building successful teams and a strong platform of amateur rugby at Goldenacre.
