We’re back!!!

Yes folks, it is the announcement you have been waiting for. Pre-season dates are here. We expect you turn up fit, we will get you fitter….

Pre-season Schedule:

Training will be held at Goldenacre. Directions here.

Saturday 6^th July – start of pre season

Saturday 27^th July – end of pre season/social

Saturday 10^th August – pre season game (away)

Saturday 17^th August – pre season mini tour

Saturday 24^th August – 1^st league match

NB: All Tuesday and Thursday sessions will begin at 6.45pm till 8.15pm. Any players with extras to do will finish at 8.30pm. All Saturday sessions will run from 9.30am till 10.30am

RBS Try of the Month (March 2013)

A great team effort in the thrilling denouement to our RBS Premiership league fixture away to Boroughmuir resulted in a fantastic match winning try scored by Colin Goudie which was adjudgedto be the RBS Try of the Month for March 2013.

Selkirk 7s

Heriot’s travel to Philiphaugh this Saturday to compete in the Selkirk 7s. The draw pits us against Gala in the opening tie of the afternoon which is scheduled for 2pm kick off.

News regarding the squad will appear tomorrow however in the meantime to whet your appetite here are the Nails in action against Melrose in the final of Jed Forest 7s last year.

Goldenacre has proved once again to be a hotbed of professional rugby talent with the announcement that Kevin Bryce and Fraser Brown have both signed contracts with Glasgow. The barnstorming pair have been on exceptional form all season, culminating in selection for the club international team. They now join another ex-Heriots hooker, Finlay Gilles, in Glasgow’s ranks.

Heriot’s Head Coach Phil Smith said:
“We are absolutely delighted for the pair of them, they will be a great addition to the professional game. We pride ourselves in giving players the platform to enter professional rugby and we will look to continue the trend next season with a number of our players hopefully knocking on the door to the pro game.”

With forwards coach Steven Lawrie being selected for the Scotland summer tour, and club stalwart Burt Mustard finally getting engaged after 3yrs of trying, it has been a good few weeks for Hookers at Heriot’s.

Heriot’s Under 15s Take Centre Stage

After what must seem like an eternity, the under 15s are eventually playing in the Edinburgh and District Cup Final on Sunday 28^th April at Lasswade’s Hawthornden ground at 1.30pm against old rivals Watsonians.

This is a fantastic opportunity to come along and cheer on the next generation so slap on the sun cream and watch the young Nails bring home some silverware.

7s Season, Bus to Melrose

A heartening start to the 7s season saw the Nails get through to the semi finals of the Gala 7s seeing off both Edinburgh and Peebles in some style before coming up against a well drilled Hawick team. This was an excellent preparation for the Melrose 7s next week end and with a more attacking defensive effort and a number of extra players available it should set us up nicely for a crack at the Ned Haig Trophy. There is a 70 seater bus going down to Melrose departing from Goldenacre at 12.00 this Saturday. All are welcome and should book places through Elizabeth Irons – Club Secretary – 07801280988. Its only a tenner to get down so spaces at a premium, fancy dress is optional but preferred. A fantastic afternoon’s entertainment is guaranteed. No dogs allowed and remember – no booze will get in to the 7s – not our rules.

A reminder that the Club Dinner is on Friday 17^th May at Prestonfield – a fabulous way to round off the season and to recognise those that have excelled throughout. Tickets at £60 per head.

Gala 7s

THE senior domestic sevens circuit gets underway at Gala on Saturday 6^th April (first tie 3.30pm), where there will be five Capital entries in the 12-team format drawn in pools of three.

The Gala sevens draw is:

Pool 1: Melrose, Watsonians, Edinburgh Accies;

Pool 2: Gala, Currie, Kelso;

Pool 3: Jedforest, Selkirk, Hawick;

Pool 4: Edinburgh Rugby, Heriot’s, Peebles.
