Christmas is fast approaching and Heriot’s bagged 2 bonus point presents at Goldenacre on Saturday.
While a precautionary pitch inspection was required the sun duly came out lifting the temperature to a warming 2 degrees allowing the double header against Hawks to go ahead. It was Hawks who started the better and it looked to like we were in for a tough shift at scrum time as they bulldozed over. This was merely a period of settling in and we proceeded to dominate most facets of the game for the next hour securing the bonus point mid way through the second half. Thereafter, Hawks upped the ante and although we had an uncomfortable 15 minutes were able to see out the game.
This result and other cancelled fixtures means we are now up to second in the BT Premiership which shows how far the boys have come since losing the first 2 games of the campaign. It takes time for a team to gel fully and we are now reaping the rewards of excellent training sessions delivered by some of the best coaches in the club game.
Playing an open, positive brand of rugby the 2nd XV had no problem dispatching their Hawks counterparts, racking up 50 points in the process and having scored 9 tries in 2 games Craig Robertson has definitely done his chances of a return to 1st XV rugby no harm at all.
The thermostat may be working overtime this week but there is no time to relax as a resurgent Hawick down at Mansfield will prove to be another tough nut to crack and they will be desperate to get the game on. We will keep you posted with any news.
The 2nd January is generally a slow day, however we have the perfect tonic and Heriot’s are delighted to be welcoming back the Co-optimists to Goldenacre for a bit of festive rugby. The ideal opportunity to blow away the cobwebs, watch some fantastic live sport and meet up with acquaintances old and new. This year all gate receipts will be donated to Doddie Weir’5 Trust to raise invaluable monies in the search for a cure for MND so we hope you can all make it along to support this notable cause.
