We are saddened to announce the death of Hamish Hastie who finally lost his battle with Alzheimer’s on 23rd October 2018.

Hamish was a proud pupil of George Heriot’s School from around 1937 until 1948 .He played and captained the 1st XV in 1946-48 gaining his colours and cap. He refused to part with either his blazer or cap and still wore the blazer at the Abbey Care Home in North Berwick He also has a special tassled cap which the family think may have been awarded to him as a prefect.

He qualified as a vet in Edinburgh and kept close links with the Rugby club, becoming a Life Member, and the Heriot club, becoming secretary of the Midland branch when he moved there in 1975 . He also lectured at the Dick Vet college as well as conferences within Europe. He attended his school year group reunion around 2008 and the photo of his year group was proudly displayed on his wall .

Hamish’s grandson, who plays for Glasgow Hawks, will be in action against Heriots on Saturday 3 November.
