Heriot’s Development Programme
Heriot’s Rugby club are delighted to announce the appointment of Jamie Parker as the ‘Heriot’s Development Programme’ manager as they look to continue to develop the next generation of top level domestic, and professional, players. Jamie has been with Heriot’s for for approaching a decade and, following a hugely successful playing career, he has most recently been the club’s contact and Strength & Conditioning Coach for both of the Championship winning teams in recent seasons. He has also been involved with the Scotland Club International side for the last two seasons alongside our Head Coach Phil Smith. We are also proud to announce that the ‘Heriot’s Development Programme’ will be sponsored by ‘The Gym’ Edinburgh.
Heriot’s President, Jon Turnbull, stated:
“Jamie is one of the best young coaches in the country and it demonstrates the level of importance we place on the development of players for our own senior sides, and, hopefully, the full professional setup in Scotland and beyond, that we have asked Jamie to fill this role. We are constantly searching for the next Fraser Brown who can use Heriot’s as a step up into the professional game. We have also recently had John Rae from Heriot’s School, re-join after studying at Glasgow University. John has gone on to become a regular member of our 1st XV helped by working with our coaching team. Having a coach of Jamie’s calibre focused on this area can only result in yet more players making our 1st XV and beyond. We are grateful to The Gym for their sponsorship of such an integral part of our rugby development model”
Jamie Parker commented:
“This is a great opportunity to help develop the generation of senior players for Heriot’s. The guys will be set specific performance targets both on and off the pitch and their progress will be monitored throughout the season. Some of them are on the fringe of the 1st XV already so it will be up to them to push for regular starting spots and I will help them achieve that. I have even joined them in the gym myself a couple of times!”
The following players have been selected for the 17/18 performance programme:
