On a sun kissed Saturday afternoon Marr and Alnwick rolled in to Goldenacre for the last pre season matches before the leagues kick off next week.
Having experienced Premiership rugby last season, Marr are keen to push on so this was a great test for both teams. From a Heriot’s perspective it was great to see Jason Hill and Andrew Simmers back and along with the introduction of Ruairidh Leishman, Josh Scott and Jack Blaine there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic for the forthcoming season.
With Iain Wilson captaining the side and Ross Jones and Jason Hill as able deputies, Heriot’s put together a controlled 80 minutes of rugby, running in 7 tries to Marr’s 3.
Over on the 2s pitch Alnwick s main threat came from their massive pack of forwards which eventually broke down the Heriot’s pack. This was an excellent warm up match for the players and gave the coaches plenty to work on in the coming weeks.
Thoughts now turn to the season ahead as the 1st XV travel to Balgray to play Hawks, the rebranded 2s – Blues – are away to GHA and the 3s are at home to Peebles. Plenty to be positive about so come along and support the boys in the final Premiership in its current form.
