Heriot’s Blues Men V GHA RFC – Saturday 26th October
Heriot’s Blues Men put in a great performance on Saturday for the 1st round of the Scottish Cup winning 48–12 against GHA RFC. John Rae managed to score a hat-trick and the other tries came from Man of the Match Louis Meynier, Craig Robertson, Graham Wilson and Ross Hutchison, as well as four conversions from Graham Wilson.
Rae scored the first try just 3 minutes into the game after winning the line out with some good interplay. Wilson hit the post missing the first conversion, however it wasn’t long until Heriot’s scored their second try. Wilson landed the conversion taking the score to a 12-0 lead.
Heriot’s Blues continued to perform well with some sensational back skills. After a few more points, Rae finished the first half with an intersection try whilst Wilson then successfully chipped the ball over the crossbar leaving Heriot’s Blues 38 points up at half time.
Concerted pressure from GHA RFC led to their first try at the start of the second half, however missing the conversion kick. The away team managed to get a second try underneath the uprights which was successfully converted taking the score to 38-12.
Finishing off strong, Hutchison and Rae got the final tries in for the Heriot’s Blues bringing the full-time score to 48-12. A very committed game with superb defence and support play throughout. The signs look hopeful for the Heriot’s Blues for the Quarter Finals of the Cup.
