Review of Ayr Game

Posted on

Millbrae is never the easiest place to come away with a win and so it proved on Saturday as Ayr ran out reasonably comfortable victors.

Having gone two tries down we found it difficult to gain a foothold in the game and despite periods of concerted pressure could never reach the heights of last week’s endeavours. Ayr were clinical at the breakdown and nailed all their penalties leaving us too much to do and closing the game out on the front foot.

The 2s had to dig in to their reserves and produced an outstanding finish, taking the ball from their own line and up to the Ayr 22 deep in to extra time where they were awarded a penalty. With Captain RJ calling for the kicking tee, it was the evergreen Symo who decided the four try bonus was the better option and took the tap which resulted in a try and a 28-21 win which takes the boys up to second in the league.

The 3s took a hefty beating away at the hands of Kelso 2s but are learning all the time and a big hand should go to the 14 players who took to the field.

While the rest of Scottish club rugby takes a break this week we are on our travels – Italy Emerging await and we play the first of the 2-legged fixtures at Biella – outside Milan on Friday evening. The return fixture being at Goldenacre on Saturday 19 November – KO 14:15. This is an outstanding opportunity for the boys to represent Scottish club rugby and pit themselves against European opposition for the first time. An honour indeed.

Saturday 19 November should prove to be a fantastic occasion with the Italians in town and Ladies Lunch totally sold out. With no other club matches on this is a fantastic chance to come along and witness top class rugby before Scotland take on Argentina at Murrayfield.
