Millbrae on any given Saturday can be a pretty formidable venue and so it came to pass as Ayr’s rebuilding process seems to be clicking in to gear a fraction quicker than ours and we departed with a fairly hefty loss.
A number of significant enforced changes in the backs meant we lost the momentum that had gathered over the previous four games and came up short defensively. With Ayr winning the contact area and exploiting the space ruthlessly they scored five excellent tries whilst limiting us to two.
Another massive game this week against Melrose who will be desperate to regain the McLaren Shield will definitely focus the minds at training.
