Review of Gala Game

What a difference a week makes….

Not sure what the coaches did or said at training but what a turnaround from the performance up at Malleny.
Following a most disappointing performance against Currie the players regrouped and put in the best performance of the season against a Gala side buoyed by a great win over Watsonians last week. With Andrew Simmers stepping up to the plate contributing 23 of the 38 points, Struan Dewar winning Man of the Match again and any number of players raising their game, hopefully we are starting to find our form as we head towards the half way point of the league with games against Melrose and Stirling on the horizon.

The competitive nature of the BT Premiership was highlighted at the weekend with all matches being within one score at half time and the second halves producing more tries as the games became more open. Another excellent advert for Scottish club rugby.

Playing without the ball for the first 15 minutes proved to be the undoing of the 2s and despite a full on assault on the Gala line we fell just short losing out 23 21. Both teams kept the referee on his toes with a raft of penalties being awarded – neither team seeming to get to grips with the referees interpretation of the breakdown laws – very frustrating when both were able and willing to play an open and expansive game.

With Accies 2s having a week off it was always going to be a massive ask for the 3s and despite going down 45 27 we are developing a fantastic squad full of young talent playing a great brand of rugby. Stay positive and the results will come.

This week the 1s and 2s are off to the Greenyards with the 3s travelling to Haddington – if you can make it along to either ground the boys would really appreciate your support.
