Review of Marr Game

Posted on

After what seems like an eternity it was great to get back to league action this weekend and on a perfect day for rugby it was a pleasure to welcome Marr to Goldenacre for the first time. Having been promoted to the BT Premiership Marr have made themselves a welcome addition to the league.

Having pulled the rug away from us at the start of the season we were acutely aware of the dangers they possess so it was comforting to get off to a good start scoring early in the process. However, any thoughts that we would overpower the opposition were quickly dashed as most of the first half was played at the Heriot’s end as we soaked up the pressure and were unable to clear our lines. The half ending with a converted try by Marr.

With a strong bench and senior players stepping up the plate the second half gave us the opportunity to exert an element of pressure and as the game wore on and Marr tired, the waves of attack finally told with 4 tries being scored in the final quarter.

While still not a complete performance this was a step in right direction and with a few minor tweaks the boys are looking forward to the arrival of Hawks on Saturday. Every point is crucial at this stage of the season as teams push for a top 4 slot and others look to avoid the drop so if you are at a loose end come along and support the boys.

The 2s have raised the bar in the last few games and are now playing at a higher of consistency putting Hamilton away 59 – 17 on Saturday and rising to 4th in National Reserve 1. A number of players are now vying for 1st XV rugby and competition for places is now becoming a challenge for the coaches.

We were delighted to host a table from The Clan – an organisation that proves that rugby is a sport for all – gathering individuals from different backgrounds and communities, with and without intellectual disabilities as well as varying degrees of experience,  wanting to enable everyone to live life to the fullest. We look forward to welcoming them back later in the season.

The festive season is almost upon us and we are delighted to be hosting the Co – Optimists on Tuesday 2 January with all gate revenue going to Doddie Weir’s Trust. What better way to bring in the New Year. More details to follow.
