Toad Saves the Day

Despite the match between Heriot’s 1st XV and Boroughmuir being called off I am delighted to report a successful week end for Heriot’s Rugby. The ‘mighty  twas’, buoyed by a number of 1st XV players in support, returned from Glasgow Hawks with a precious victory. Playing on the smallest pitch Hawks could find, Heriot’s showed a never say die attitude with Stuart “Pink Toad “ Mustard barrelling his way over for the vital try in the last play of the game. Result 19-15 taking the 2nd XV to the top of the table.

Meanwhile at Goldenacre the 3’s were playing against a well-drilled and highly competent Linlithgow 2nd XV.  Playing with the wind in the first half Heriot’s struggled to find any cohesion and found themselves down 12-7 at half time, however, after an inspirational team talk from guiding light Dave Stoddart, Heriot’s displayed the kind of champagne rugby that has become synonymous with Nails rugby over the decades and they scored 31 unanswered points with excellent interplay between forwards and backs. The result was a 38-12 victory which also propels them to the top of their league.

It’s a big weekend at Goldenacre kicking off with Nails Legends playing Musselburgh Old Boys (kick off at 11.30am).

This is followed by our Internationals Lunch – seats still available but going fast. Contact Iain Milne or Elizabeth Irons – before our 1st XV take on Currie at 3.00pm. The 2nd XV are also playing at home against Boroughmuir.

In the evening we have Ladies Night – this is almost sold out, so if you want to book be quick! Contact David Edge – david@opallounge.co.uk

With home fixtures against Currie and Boroughmuir for the 1st and 2nds respectively and Stewart’ s Melville away for the 3s what better reason do you need to come to Goldenacre  for your weekend fix of sport and entertainment.
