Charity Shield – Winners
BT Scottish Cup – Winners
BT Premiership – Champions
With the sun out and the pitch firm this was the fitting end to eight months of rugby.
Last year we finished top of the league and went on to win the BT Premiership, this year we finished third and went on to win the BT Premiership – completely different pressures but both handled well and executed perfectly.
Phil, Stevie, Jamie, the medical team and the players have performed way above themselves this season and the results are there for all to see. We said before the Cup Final that it had been a good season no matter what happened and to finish it off the way we did was beyond expectations. The boys should be rightly proud of all they have achieved this year and absolutely deserve a long rest and period of reflection as it is doubtful whether winning the treble will ever be achieved again.
There is no doubt that the play off structure brings a new dimension to the end of the campaign, creating an intensity and highlighting all that is great about Scottish Club Rugby – as witnessed at Millbrae on Saturday and at Goldenacre last season – 2 outstanding games of rugby. Having said that there also has to be recognition for finishing top of the league at the end of the regulation season – to go through 18 games of high level rugby and come away with nothing to show for it is unacceptable and is something that needs to be addressed for next season. League winners are rewarded across every other league in Scotland – why not the BT Premiership?
I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this season – your efforts have been amazing and Heriot’s Rugby Club would not be where it is without you.
