Weekend Update – Victory for the Legends and Darts Challenge
1st XV – Draw with Currie, in the end a fair result- it was great to see the confidence growing in the team as the game went and I believe we can look forward to a highly successful second half of the league campaign and assault on the Scottish Cup.
2nds saw off Boroughmuir with a spirited performance 25 17 to remain top of the league.
3rd XV brushed Stewarts Melville aside 45 21. Direct running at inside centre and whipping the ball wide seems to be the way to play in the 3s – highly effective too.
The most highly anticipated match of the day kicked off at 11.30 between Heriot’s Legends v Musselburgh old Boys – it was fantastic to see so many finely honed athletes on the park at the same time and at times one could have been forgiven for thinking they were witnessing the ’73 Barbarians such was the speed of thought and sleight of hand.
Tackling was kept to such a level that washing the strips wasn’t required but full marks to all who took part, resulting in a 24 19 victory for the Legends with a Man of the Match performance by our own Shuggy Gilmore. Big thanks to Mel and Muzzy for gathering such an array of stars from yesteryear.
The Internationals lunch was fantastically well attended 130+ – with Finlay Calder, Alan Lawson and Kenny Milne all speaking. Thanks again to Mike and his staff at Mackenzies for all the good work they do.
Ladies Night went off spectacularly well with outstanding contributions from David Edge and the players and a guest appearance by the Bear resulting in a raffle and a fine donation to Breast Cancer Awareness.
Next week sees the arrival of Gala to Goldenacre – currently the best place to come and watch club rugby in Scotland.
Another lunch for all to attend, with the evenings festivities shifting to the Corn Exchange for the highly anticipated Darts Challenge. Playing against Accies and Watsons, the Heriot’s team consists of Kenny and Iain Milne, Douglas Livingstone, John Liddel, Kevin Bryce, Graham Boon, Jamie Parker and Stuart Mustard. Tickets are still available – £20 and upwards.
